MATCH REPORT:
Tarbert were defeated by the minimum in an entertaining game against Castlegregory in round six of the County Senior League played at Shannon Park on Saturday evening last. Miceal O’Shea opened the scoring for Castlegregory with a point which was rapidly cancelled out with a Stephen O’Connor point. Another point and a goal from a penalty gave Castlegregory a four point lead but Tarbert soon drew level with four points in succession. One last point to Castlegregory and three to Tarbert gave the home side a two point cushion at half time on a score of Tarbert 0-08 Castlegregory 1-03.
Within four minutes of resuming play Castlegregory drew level only for Tarbert to take the lead again with Points from John Kelleher (2) and Paddy Moriarty. Darragh Lanigan and Alan Fitzgerald exchanged points giving Tarbert a three point lead. Two points for Castlegregory and an Eddie O’Connor point for Tarbert left a win for Tarbert on the Cards. However disaster then struck as Castlegregory had the ball in Tommy Barrett’s net from a very dubious hand pass. That gave Castlegregory a one point lead which they rapidly increased to two. A Tarbert point from Stephen O’Connor left the minimum between the sides. Tarbert had chances to at least draw the game but unfortunately Lady Luck was not on their side and the game finished on a final score of Castlegregory 2-09 Tarbert 0-14. This was a game Tarbert could have won or at least drawn and they could do with a point or two to help consolidate their position in division two.
Tarbert team and scorers were: Tommy Barrett, Patrick O’Hanlon, Deo O’Connor, Stevie Deenihan, Eddie O’Connor (0-01) Kieran Deenihan (0-01) Jason Wren, Stephen O’ Connor (0-04) Sean McGinley, Jimmy Holly, Kevin Wren (0-01), Ian Flavin, Darragh Lanigan (0-01), Donal Leahy (0-01) and John Kelleher (0-05).
