TARBERT VICTORY:

Well done to the Tarbert U/16 Team who beat a fancied Skellig Valentia team in the County League Final played in Miltown.

Tarbert got off to a great start with points from Evan Allen and Gerald O’Sullivan and a well taken goal from Shane Foran before Skellig registered a point. Andrew Doherty and Brian Heaphy added further points for Tarbert but Skellig with a never say die attitude reduced Tarbert’s lead with 3 points on quick succession. This caused the Skellig Valentia supporters to go into enthusiastic cheering mode but this was brought to an abrupt halt when Andrew Doherty crashed a rasping shot to the back of the Skellig net leaving the half time score Tarbert 2 – 5 Skellig 0-04.

Tarbert started the second half with points from Niall Foley and Brian Heaphy and the writing seemed to be on the wall for Skellig when Tarbert’s Captain Niall Foley gave the goalkeeper no chance with a well taken goal. Tarbert continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with points from Brian Heaphy and Shane Foran and when a blasting shot by way of a free from the boot of Gerald O’Sullivan hit the back of the net things were looking good for Tarbert.

Skellig to their credit never gave up and did manage to score some consolation points but the Tarbert defenders were in no mood for conceding goals. Defenders Michael Carrig, Sean Finucane, Brendan Garvey and Jack Finucane marshaled the Skellig forwards out of the danger zone with goalkeeper John Kennedy providing a most reliable rearguard, ensuring that Tarbert emerged as County League Champions in the 11 aside Final.

The final score Tarbert 4 - 08 Skellig Valentia 0-11pts

Team Captain Niall Foley accepted the trophy for a delighted and talented team of players who proved unbeatable in this campaign. Great Credit is due to all concerned, team manager/trainer Jer Foley and team trainer John O’Connell.

Team members were; John Kennedy, Michael Carrig, Sean Finucane, Evan Allen (0-1), Jack Finucane, Gerald O’Sullivan (1-01), Brendan Garvey, Shane Foran (1-01), Brian Heaphy (0-3), Nial Foley Cpt.
